Maclay School provides Computer Science instruction in grades PK-12.
Computer Science Curriculum
- Lower School Computer Science
Computer Science is offered to all Lower School students once per week during the school year. Students are taught keyboarding, word processing and the basics of computer hardware. Students also learn to create presentations for class projects in PowerPoint and spreadsheets in Excel. Starting in third grade, students have their own web-accessible email account and password protected drive space that is backed-up nightly.
- Middle School Computer Science
Computer Science in the Middle School is taught as part of the Enrichment Wheel in a 9-week unit. Band students take Computer Science one day per week during afternoon hoomroom through the entire school year. The emphasis in 6th grade Computer Science is on developing proficiency in keyboarding and word processing. The emplasis in 7th and 8th grade is on Computer Applications, with a concentration on Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Students are also taught about computer hardware and peripherals, operating systems, networks. They continue to work on their keyboarding skills.
